Engagement Session Tips

Engagement Session Tips

Time to start planning out your first session! Engagements are great for getting to see my approach to photography firsthand and also just having a great time and capturing some fun and love before your wedding day. But I’m sure, since this is your first session, you’re trying to figure out the best way to plan everything. Well here are a couple of tips to help you out!

What to Wear

Casual in the city

Dressy in the forest

Don't wear matching colors

I know that it’s classic to match colors, but it’s 2024 now and totally played out to have perfectly matching outfits. What’s better is to wear complementary colors or closely related colors. This will give you the same “feel” of wearing exact matching outfits without dressing up like your 10-year-old family photos.

Solid colors or patterns, but not for both

It’s very important to make sure that you and your spouse choose who will be wearing the outfit with a pattern. If you want to wear polka dots, then they should wear a plain color. While each of you can wear a pattern, they need to be minimal patterns, or else you’ll get a clash of the patterns.

Mix & match styles per location

I love having contrasting styles with your locations. Since you’ll have one outfit change during your session, it’s nice to contrast each location with your outfit. For example, you can have a dressy outfit while in a park around greenery. Or you can have a casual outfit in a more “urban” or city setting. Basically, you’ll want one more dressy outfit and one more casual, and then we’ll work on which location to wear each.

Have Fun

This is a time for us to capture fun photos together. While you might be worried about making sure you wear the right things or are a little nervous about posing, don’t worry. This is going to be a fun session and we’re going to have a great time!

Things to bring

Champagne

Champagne bottle pops are always a great choice and make wonderful photos. just don't forget to bring some glasses!

Something Special

Have something that means a lot to the both of you? An item that captures something that brought you together? Bring it along!
